Music and art programs have struggled to keep up with the low funding they’re given. Other programs like STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) have always received a lot more funding and budgeting than fine art programs. Many people are upset that the government isn’t providing more funding. One of the people who are upset is Amirah Johnson. She wrote an article titled, “The Arts Deserve More Funding in Schools” where she gave several reasons as to why she believes art should get more money dedicated to their programs. The author of the article talks in a formal tone throughout her article. It shows that she is trying to make a point and be taken seriously. One clear example is when she said, “A lack of funding for the arts will decrease career opportunities and paths to children. Early access and introduction to dance, theatre, visual art, and music can broaden the future paths of children. The arts also are beneficial to those from low socioeconomic backgrounds”(Johnson, 2022). She explains here how a child with stripped of opportunities in their later life if they aren’t provided with fine art classes that will allow them to visualize their future. Johnson also incorporates how this issue affects a certain group. Many people are more likely to believe an author when there is a direct and more specific group impacted. She chose to speak on BIPOC and said, “There are several factors that may contribute to this low ranking, such as institutional and systemic racism in the K-12 science classroom. Science teaching and learning often leaves untouched a status quo that threatens the physical, emotional, psychological, and intellectual well-being of historically minoritized learners, especially students from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities”(Johnson,
