As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. As a student, I have strived for the highest achievements and to earn honorable merit in everything I do. Be it through the National Honors Society, pursuing the Honors Diploma, or maintaining honor roll every semester, I have been preparing to take the next step at the university level. To me, school isn’t just a place to learn about the the four core subjects. It is where you can learn about yourself, your peers, and the world around you. College is the time for people to step outside their comfort zone and participate in eye-opening debates, classes, and clubs.
