Why Is Basketball Better Than Soccer

“I love sports. I've played basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, track and field growing up.” states Michael B. Jordan. The activities listed above, couldn’t be more different, but they still have many characteristics and elements in common. Specifically the sports basketball and soccer. Soccer requires quick reflexes and thinking ahead; whereas, basketball requires speed and agility. Now, I’m not saying that either sport only focuses on those skills, but they are displayed in other ways on the field and on the court. Laser focus, good stamina and years of practice, are the top three assets that players need to develop to play both of these sports.

In soccer there are ten players from each team on the field at one time and one goalie in each net. In basketball there in five players on the court at a time with no goalie. All throughout a basketball game, the players on each team switch between playing offense and defense; whereas, in soccer the player has more of a “set” position. This means the player stays in one general area and doesn’t switch positions unless instructed by the coach. An example would be if the athlete was playing a striker on the soccer field you would stay between the other team's goal and the line; whereas, if you were playing defense it would be the complete opposite. However, in both activities there are defense and offense, now whether that be a position or an entire team swap on the court depends on the sport. Finally, in basketball there are quarters that for non professional games tend to be between six and eight minutes. In soccer there are two halves that increase in length as the age/level increases. A similarity between the two sports is that there is a referee that calls all the fouls, and depending on the sport a handball (soccer) or travel (basketball). These all play a huge factor in how
