Why Is Brutus Caesar Too Ambitious

“This is the noblest Roman of them all: All the conspirators save only he, Did that they did in envy of great Caesar” (Noblest). Antony and Brutus are both trying to persuade Rome with their funeral speeches and Antony thinks that Brutus and the conspirators murdered him out of envy, where as Brutus says he did it because he loves Rome and that Caesar was too ambitious. Brutus and Antony both said their funeral speeches and they were similar and different in many ways, and both had different outcomes. The speeches were similar because they both talked about their love for Caesar. They were different because Antony talked about all the reasons Caesar wasn’t ambitious and how Brutus was wrong but still a “honorable man”, as he states many times. Brutus and Antony both loved Caesar very much. Caesar was Antony’s best friend and Caesar trusted Brutus a lot. As Brutus says in his funeral speech, “not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more” (Holt,831), he is explaining that he loves Caesar but he wants what is best for Rome and Caesar wasn’t that. Antony’s love for Caesar is very strong. Antony states in Act III, ii “My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, and I must pause till it come back to me” (Holt,835). There love for Caesar was definitely shown in different ways but they both did love him
