The book Fahrenheit 451 is about a man named Guy Montag. Montag works for the Firehouse as a Fireman, but Fahrenheit 451 is set in the future. A future where Firemen do not put out fires, instead they start them. These firemen set ablaze to only books. They set fire to books because they are wrong, evil, and corruptive.
Have anyone ever thought about firemen starting fires instead of preventing them? Well in Fahrenheit 451 firemen would burn books and even sometimes burn houses down. Firemen and trucks were futuristic and different. Clarisse was not scared of having books she was curious about them but most people were scared of books. Montag was one of the few people who wanted to have books.
Fahrenheit 451 has an astonishingly accurate future depiction of a society in which everyone is too distracted by technology, so they ignore most of the world around them. The community members are not aware of nature or other human beings, and they never take time to actually think deeply about life and ideas in general. Many high school and middle school teach this book in curriculums nationwide, because the addiction to technology and hatred of books portrayed in the book is beginning to be prevalent in our society. This book also glorifies individuality by admiring a girl who is different from everyone else. In the past, many parents have decided to challenge this book due to the violence, the religious discrimination, the foul language, and the references to drinking and smoking.
According to Dictionary.com, theme is defined as “the subject of a talk, piece of writing, person’s thoughts, or exhibition; a topic.” In the short story, “There Will Come Soft Rains”, the author, Ray Bradbury uses personification and onomatopoeia to illustrate the theme, which is technology outliving modern society. He uses these specific literary devices to demonstrate the devastation of humanity and technological advances in order to build up his dystopian story. Firstly, the imperative theme or idea that was being conveyed by the author within the short story was how technology outlived all of humanity to an alarming extent.
In Fahrenheit 451 Bradbury creates a technological dystopia where books are banned. In the society, any type of intellectual thought is seen as odd or unique which is not tolerated. This is closely related to the poem the "Allegory of the cave" where it talks about how people who are stuck in one way and aren't willing to see the truth will often go to extremes to avoid said truth or anything that seems different from what they believe in. In Fahrenheit 451 the main character Guy Montag and counters this young girl named Clarisse McClellan. Clarisse is the first person to really open up Montag's eyes to his surroundings and what the world he lives in has become.
All books have a story, but only a select few endure the story on itself. The novel, Fahrenheit 451 is about firemen burning books with material the government does not want the public to see. This book seems to suffer from itself, as democrats in government are attempting to remove free speech and schools are requiring parent notes because of controversial ideas. However, admittedly there is some sections where language is present where it should not be for the younger audience. The novel Fahrenheit 451 is not merit of being banned, due to the necessity of youth to be exposed to other alternative opinions, even if such are radical, in order defend their beliefs.
Books are an essential way to gain knowledge whether they are controversial or not. Thousands of books have been banned from public libraries and schools due to being deemed ‘inappropriate’ by parents, administrators, or religious leaders. Whether Americans should ban books in public libraries and schools is an often debated topic. This censorship of books is dangerous, as it restricts the American people's’ ability to access information, leaving Americans ignorant. Historically, banning books is not a new practice.
When most people are asked if they are willing to die for their beliefs or ideas, they become frightened to where they stop believing in their beliefs and ideas and follow other people’s thoughts. I’m different when it comes to that. I am willing to perish for my ideas and beliefs I follow. Such as, I am willing to die for the idea of “reincarnation” and the moral, “there is no good or bad, only right and wrong.” It sorta like how Montag is willing to die for the thought of why books got banned.
While Fahrenheit 451 is set way in the future, there are still current events that portray societal elements of the story, such as censorship. The society in Fahrenheit 451 burns books to keep people from reading about the past and how things used to be. The government in Fahrenheit bans all books and only shows on tv what they want you to see, and they hide the rest much like countries today. There are many forms of censorship in the current world.
Commentary #4. The most important theme of Fahrenheit 451 is restriction of freedom of speech because of the fear to offend another person in the society. There are strict censorship laws in the totalitarian society of Fahrenheit 451. In the novel the job of a fireman is to start a fire and watch the forbidden literature burn, these firemen had never read the books they burn nor were they all allowed to keep one for more than 24 hours.
Books have been banned in this society due to the controversy over many topics and opinions. Rather than Fighting fires, firemen produce fires. In the dystopian society of Fahrenheit 451, the firemen burned all books because people were not allowed to own books, and those who had them were arrested or even burned alive in some cases. This is because people that would read books would get ideas and start thinking and rebel against the people in power. But in modern-day society, people with authority will ban books if they think that the books are not appropriate. Even if people have the banned books, their houses will not get raided or burned down like in Fahrenheit 451. A society where books are burned and reading is banned, seems like a far off dystopian land, but it's happening in America, and it's happening now. Books such as Ray Bradbury's ""Fahrenheit 451"" are being banned daily. The book, ironically, is about a fireman who runs away from society because he refuses to burn books and submit to a life without meaning. Although "Fahrenheit 451" brings up issues pertaining to controversial beliefs, it should not be banned because of it's educational value. By reading this book students are exposed to life lessons and experiences all within the confines of a book.
I recently read a book by the name of Fahrenheit 451, and I think that you should read it as well. This is an action packed book about a character by the name of Montag going against society by… reading books. In his world books are banned because society doesn’t want the people to know the real truth. But Montag manages to get hold of a couple books without anyone knowing. Later on his Captain, Beatty, who knows of Montag's rebellious ideas, brings Montag to his own house and manages to bait him into burning it down.
Analysis In every piece of literature there is a theme. The theme is its underlying message or the big idea the author is trying to convey. But with this novel there happen to be more than just on theme. One theme of the story would be "The impossible is possible".
