George, from Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, acquires great qualities that reflect his personality, but some of these qualities fail him. George is patient and persistent when it comes to Lennie's feelings. He also shows a lot of honesty that makes Lennie feel insecure and unworthy of his presence. George is a soft, warm hearted man, that allows him to connect with the people around him. He was patient, honest, and kind, with honesty, which could otherwise be a successful trait, failed him. George is honest with Lennie in this story. Lennie made George mad, so he told the truth about him. George, knowing that Lennie would not remember what he says anyway, says it. This action causes Lennie to feel sad, and doubt any positive thoughts he once had. ““George, you want I should go away and leave you alone?” “Where the hell could you go?” “Well I could. I could go off in the hills there. Some place I’d find a cave.” and “God a'mighty, if I was alone, I could live so easy. I could get a job an’ work an’ no trouble. No mess at all, and when the end of the month come I could take my fifty bucks and go into town and set whatever I want. Why, I could stay in a cat house all night.”” (Steinbeck, 13 14) These scenes show George's honesty because he admits to Lennie that he would rather be alone than dealing with him and his troubles.
