The topic that I have chosen explains why gerrymandering should be illegal. Gerrymandering is the process of a state having the ability to redraw the voting district. In turn, this can give the party in control of that state an advantage over the other party by redrawing the district in their favor. I picked this topic, because I find it ridiculous that many states have the ability to move where your vote counts for their own agenda, and this makes it difficult for minorities in voting districts to be properly represented and allows for the party to maintain control of the house.
Write a couple paragraphs explaining the court cases you picked and why you picked them:
There were two Supreme Court cases that I chose. Both of these cases came from Alabama and showed signs of discrimination during the redrawing of voting districts within the state. The discrimination was ruled to be directed towards black voters. Luckily, the court ruled in their favor this time, but that doesn’t mean that the state of Alabama or any other state that allows this practice can change where you vote to avoid a group of people’s interest and voices from being heard.
The interest group I have chosen is the one against Gerrymandering. I picked this group, because I believe that being able to change someone’s voting district shouldn’t be allowed. The intent of doing so is just for the desires of few, which might include those in office or simply a political party or idea and hurts and impedes on the rights of those who cast their ballots.
