Why Is Giles Corey Important In The Crucible

As a class we have just finished The Crucibles. In my opinion it was great, but the ending wasn't so great. I have to agree, what was done was done and that is what turned it into a great play. The town of Salem is full of corruption. Despite this corruption, there are several characters who are willing to do what they believe is right no matter what the consequences. These consequences affect the characters in different ways and influence the events throughout the play.

I will first start out with Giles Corey. Giles Corey, I believe took a great step in trying to stop the Witch Trials. By doing what he thought was right ended in one big consequence. Giles Corey went to the court to confront Mr.Putnam about a man who said Mr.Putnam was wrongly accusing people of Witchcraft just for their land. While Giles is presenting this issue to the court, he is asked to reveal the name of the man who brought up this issue . Rebecca Nurse is the sweetest, kindest, women you would ever meet. She was convicted of witchcraft for sending her spirits out to kill the 7 Putnam babies. She knew that if she confessed she would be free, but she would also be a liar and be damned in God's name. Instead of doing what would have kept her alive, she did what would keep her in God's eyes. Rebecca Nurse also inspired John Proctor to tear up his confession and lead them both to heaven. Rebecca Nurse was probably what I believe to be an inspiration; she encouraged people by just doing the right thing. Her death I believe would have affected the play greatly. Since the play ended after her death we really don't what happened but I believe her death would of helped end the witch trials because it would of shown everyone that what they're doing is
