In the case of Lucille Ball, a successful entertainment professional, it’s relevant to consider the image of her comedic role in terms of how women were stereotyped in the 1950’s. I Love Lucy was based off an ordinary housewife, living an everyday, domestic life, who dreamed of getting into show business. Instead of Lucille Ball playing the Hollywood actress she in fact is, it’s clear that the main appeal of Lucille Ball as a comedienne was her funniness supplemented by a lack of intellectuality.
