Isolation is the process or fact of being alone. Isolation can be needed at times but is not good all the time. In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Victor began to go crazy with too much isolation, but when around family he wanted to be isolated due to the high stress. An example of this is when Victor felt that he was responsible for two murders and went to wonder in the valley. Isolation is needed because it gives a person time to reflect and gather themselves. We need isolation to give time for us to spend time alone. In Frankenstein, Victor wanted to leave his family because so much had gone through his mind specifically the death of his brother William. In the article How Social Isolation Is Killing Us, Khullar states that those who feel less socially connected suffer from disrupted sleep, altered immune systems, and higher stress levels. Being alone for too long could lead to depression. Isolation can also lead to the feeling that one has no support, this is seen in Victor because he doesn't tell anyone about the monster that he created because he feels that everybody would shun him for it. Due to the isolation of Victor being focused on creating his monster, his mental state deteriorated which is seen by his reaction when Henry goes to visit him. Henry's visit is needed because after the years of isolation, he needed something to remind him of home and to forget about the monster that ran through his head. Victor was inspired to create the monster because of his isolation and love for science, and then when the monster was created he had no one to criticize him but him so he only noticed the bad things. Victor's creation, on the other hand, is innocent when he is born, like a baby. He needs to experience the world and figure out how to function in it on his own.
