The question of- Do we really have to wear these stupid, bulky things?- has gone through everyone 's mind when on a boat or somewhere that caused you to need a life jacket but let’s be real for a second, these bulky stupid things can save anyone 's life if something bad or unexpected happens. Life jackets should be required to wear, even for adults, when boating or swimming in a river because they can save lives, keep people from drowning, and keep people prepared for anything.
Life jackets can most definitely save your life. Boating accidents are the single biggest cause of death when out on the water. 78% of these deaths are from drowning. 80% of these drownings happened because the person was not wearing a lifejacket. Think about who many of those lives possibly could have been saved if they were wearing a lifejacket. And other people agree that lifejackets can save lives and prevent accidents. Joe Carro, a Coast Guard boating safety specialist says, “Life jackets save lives.” So, though they might seem pointless they’re not and they can and will save your life.

Then it’s too late to try and fix what has happened. People who had a life jacket on and had a situation were happy they had worn one because it saved their life. People who didn’t have one on and got stuck in a situation. (the ones who survived) They say that they wish they would have worn one because it would have not left them with an injury or something that they can not fix now. Take it from me I was messing around in the mackinaw and I didn 't see a rock. I tripped on it and ended up getting pulled into the current upside down. But the life jacket I was wearing flipped me right side up and kept me aloft so I could swim back to shore. I don’t know what would have happened if I didn’t have
