The Crucible
People that are challenged by fear usually go into a fight or flight method. Some will either stay in the situation to fight or will either flee from being apart of the whole situation. The Salem Witch Trials began in February 1692 and went until May 1693. More than two hundred people were accused of practicing witchcraft. At least twenty people were executed for not pleading guilty to being a witch. Those people stuck to the truth when others did not. I believe that John Proctor and Abigail Williams could have done moe to end the hysteria in Salem because Abigail could have told the truth and said that it was all a joke. John also could have told the truth sooner that Abigail even told him that it was all a joke. John could have also went to Salem earlier than he did, when he arrived everyone thought that he was there just to save his wife even though it was more than that. Proctor could have came to court sooner and told the truth about what Abigail told him. Abigail told John that the witchcraft thing was all a joke. People always ask this question when reading The Crucible, why wasn’t Abigail questioned? That is one question we will never know because the judges only go off of hearsay evidence not any other evidence. Some of the main points from my essay was the counterclaim and the historical background of Salem. Historical background is important to include because the reader needs to get to know what the town or civilization is like before reading. The counterclaim is important because it provides a different viewpoint for the reader to think about while reading. The Crucible is a very important play about the Salem Witch Trials and children our age should read it in schools all over the
