"Never let pride ruin everything. Its better to lose your pride than to lose the love of your life because of your pride."-Unknown. John Proctor was a man wo honored his pride more than anything else. He tried his best not to let anything or anyone get in the way of that either, but soon enough it catches up to him and he chooses to only think about himself. By only being concerned about himself John Proctor was wrong for dying just to protect his reputation and therefore leaving behind his wife, 3 kids, and soon to be newborn when his repuation was already ruined by is indiscretion. John Proctors name in the town was already soiled by the indiscretion with Abigail. The day that John accused Abigail of not being a child and being a whore, he also ruined his good name in the town and were to face the consequences of his own. In John's fury he stated, "How do you call Heaven! Whore! Whore!"(Miller 193). Just as Reverend Hale and many others realized, living for a little lie would be much better than dying for a crime he didn't commit. Hale pleading with Elizabeth, "Let him give his lie. Quail not before God's judgment in this, for it may well be God damns a liar less than he that throws his life away for pride"(Miller 206). Hale pleads to her because he thinks that she is the only one who would be able to concince him to change his stubborn ways. If John had chose to keep his life he could've been an example to others for them to save themselves. Further on in life he would've had the knowledge of being one of the accused and could've shown the corruption that had occured in the time or the horrid lies and massacre of the Salem witch
