Why Is July 4 Important

When an American thinks about independence and freedom, July 4 is a date the easily comes to mind. This date symbolizes a great deal for the country and the individuals who call the United States of America home. This date is more than trips to the lake, fireworks, family vacations, and American tradition. This date is the accepted timeframe for one of the greatest documents in the history of America. July 4, 1776 is the date that Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, and a date that is now celebrated as the birth of American Independence (history.com). While the day is an important part of history and a day that is easily celebrated, the significance of the document is more important than simply a national holiday.
