They want to see you grow up to be respectful of those around you; to give you more opportunities than you could have had if you continued to show disrespect and no remorse for those around you. They put you through painstaking tasks that you would have to complete before the sun rose and after it fell. However only certain type of people will understand these meanings and more. For those who show more of a liking to the Military Academy, they tend to be more of those who want to change and show respect to those they have hurt. They feel sorrow, remorse and even pain themselves for what they have done.

My reasons for wanting to attend a service academy are opportunity and service. Attending a service academy is an honor not experienced by many. I see the United States Naval Academy as a world of opportunity. Since I was younger, I have had a desire to protect and serve. I didn’t know about the Naval Academy until just a couple years ago, so I had my heart set on becoming a police officer.
My steadfast desire to attend a service academy is rooted from my determination to become the best officer I can possibly be. Service academies focus on a career in the military which has become by life 's dream. The atmosphere at a service academy ensures I will have every resource available to help me mature mentally, morally, and physically to reach my goal. Traditional colleges or universities may offer some military oriented courses such as ROTC programs, however, I am not seeking a course, I am seeking a lifestyle which is assured at a service academy. I feel the daily rigors presented at a service academy will help me prepare for the challenges I will be faced within the fleet more so than a traditional college or university.

Attendance to a service academy is my wish due to my desire to serve and to continue my family 's history of being in the armed services. The idea of serving one’s country has been with me my entire life. My father has been in the PA National Guard for over 20 years and he has now been activated for duty overseas. Seeing my father serve in the army, spending time away from our family, and the importance he places on what he does in the army has directly influenced me in seeking acceptance into a service academy. In addition, my family has served in the military every generation since the revolutionary war.
In fact military schools have been so successful that school are starting to adopt the teachings that military schools have. According to the article “Borrowing from Military Success” by Anne C Lewis, Military schools have “help public schools implement the key attributes of the military strategies for dealing with disaffected youth such as guidance, operating standards and systems, training and technical assistance, monitoring and assessments.” These are just a few things that have begun since public schools adopted military strategies. With the school changing so are the students. The Army Values are important and guide soldiers and leaders to do what is right on a day to day basis within their career. The Army Values are known as the foundation of the army. Even though people know the meaning of these values, not everyone actually lives up to them, but soldiers are taught in Basic Combat Training (BCT) the details of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.
Not committing to the task could potentially suggest that they were incompetent or lack the capacity as a military personnel so facing ‘dangers’ was a much preferred option. Additionally, discipline in the military can be seen when an officer makes his salutes appropriately, their conduct, to the state of their uniform and even how they present themselves in public. While discipline in military is rewarded as it is a sign of respect and duty, misconduct on the other hand is punishable. When discipline is lacking in an army personnel, it not only affects their own performance but also the team as a whole. It is therefore important to instil discipline early and effectively.
