Attendance to a service academy is my wish due to my desire to serve and to continue my family 's history of being in the armed services. The idea of serving one’s country has been with me my entire life. My father has been in the PA National Guard for over 20 years and he has now been activated for duty overseas. Seeing my father serve in the army, spending time away from our family, and the importance he places on what he does in the army has directly influenced me in seeking acceptance into a service academy. In addition, my family has served in the military every generation since the revolutionary war. I strongly believe that my commitment and willingness to serve was established and developed due to my cultural background and through my experience. Although my major is undecided, whatever I pursue as a major will help me in making a difference. Acceptance into a service academy will help me to achieve my long-range goals by not only continuing my family 's service to our country but also by allowing me to be educated through service. I will be going to school and will also be going through the training needed to be part of the armed forces. My goal is to say I served in the United States, that I have put in the time and effort to keep our country safe, to honor those who fought before, to allow our freedoms to continue and to maybe, make the world a better place.
Attending USNA or West Point would allow me to begin a new tradition as I would be the first in my military-rich family to attend a service academy. The values, tradition, and academics offered at USNA and West Point align well with my goals.
