In the episode of Independence Adam witnesses the bloody battle of Lexington and Concord and reports back to Philadelphia. Over in Philadelphia Adams battles with delegates debating the pros and cons of independence. Adam declares that there is no other way other than to break off and declare independence against Great Britain. John Adams stated major points but one of Adams biggest flaws was his bluntness against his political opponents, which eventually cause Adams to make many enemies in his political career. That is what General George Washington did during the Revolutionary War that began on April 19, 1775 to September 3, 1783. General George Washington had been selected to be a Commander in Chief of the Continental Army. Throughout the era of the War, General Washington has proved himself to be a formidable leader that made him recognizable in a much later life such as his presidential selection. If it weren’t for General George Washington reshaping the life during the Revolutionary between the British and the Americans, America would have not be what it is.
During the first presidency with George Washington, there were no political parties. It was not until 1796 until voters broke into factions and started to vote for towards their ideological leanings. George Washington feared this, and even spoke about his ideas in his Farewell Address in 1796. George Washington was opposed to different political parties because he feared that once one party got elected into office, it would take over too much power and neglect the other party. Against Washington’s wishes, voters formed the first party system with the Federalists versus the Democrat-Republicans with the election of 1796.
Jefferson ran against Adams again in the presidential election of 1800, which turned into a bitter battle between the Federalists and Democratic-Republicans. Jefferson defeated Adams; however, due to a flaw in the electoral system, Jefferson tied with fellow Democratic-Republican Aaron Burr (1756-1836). The House of Representatives broke the tie and voted Jefferson into office. In order to avoid a repeat of this situation, Congress proposed the Twelfth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which required separate voting for president and vice president. Sadly, he has become a figure so far removed from the ideals and lives of modern Americans, that his name often provokes boredom. Nonetheless, his character proved to be perfect for what America needed during his life. His greatness was largely due to chance.

I think that George Washington made choices that directly benefitted himself. After learning about Washington, I feel like he becomes relatable. George Washington is often described in a way that makes him appear to be a flawless, strong, perfect, human being. In reality, he was just a mundane as I am. He made some excellent choices on the battlefield and poor ones as well.
