For two terms, George Washington was the president of America. As the first president, Washington had to set the standards for what future presidents should do. George Washington grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia where his first job was a land surveyor. As a young kid, Washington never thought of himself being the president one day. At the first presidential election in 1789, Washington ran against John adams.
The United States of America has been fortunate with getting unbelievable leaders in our past starting with George Washington. He has led our Nation to victory and our independence along with being amazing president. George Washington was an incredible leader during the American Revolution and it is proven by the viewpoints of the loyalists, patriots, and their similarities. George Washington placed enemies right where anyone would want them even if he did it on purpose or not. To explain, at the beginning of the war the loyalists viewed George Washington viewed him as a weak, unskilled leader because he lost majority of the battles.
While these were major reforms, neither of these things required much strength or leadership skill, like that which Lincoln displayed. On the other hand Washington showed excellent leadership skill. His prowess as a military general was proven “on the field of battle”(Weston 4) during the Revolutionary War. His moral compass was another admirable trait of the leader Washington. Washington set the precedent for future presidents through the “tradition”(Weston 3) of only running for two terms in office.
George Washington is one of the most courageous leaders to ever live, some of his qualities include intelligence, good morals, strength, and leadership. George Washington was very intelligent without as much education as many other children of upper-class families got at his time. He studied math and surveying at school but his schooling ended at fifteen. At age 17 George Washington became the Culpeper county surveyor. He built up his wealth and bought land putting him on the road to becoming very rich.
Creating the U.S. Constitution established America’s national government and fundamental laws, and it guaranteed certain basic rights for citizens. The U.S. constitution was signed on September 17, 1787 by George Washington. George Washington was the first person to recognize the flaws in the government. George Washington was also the first president of the USA and he was running between 1789 and 1797. George Washington played a key role in drafting the Constitution of the United States in the year 1787.
The antebellum period took place before the civil war. During this time period, one can thoroughly see accomplishments of the presidents in charge during that time. There is one who stood out the most based on my criteria and his outstanding achievements and it was George Washington . He was one with the most accomplishments, foreign policies and impacted the union the most after his presidency. Being in charge of a nation is never easy no matter how much experience or prepared one is, issues are always going to arise whether it be political, economic,or social issues.
Imagine being the leading General of the Continental Army, George Washington. Imagine living in his big, fancy, house at Valley Forge. Now imagine being a soldier living at Valley Forge. No difference, right? Wrong.
The powers of the president aren’t very strict because the other branches watch to see what they are doing. The powers included: making laws, signing treaties, appointing judges, filling up vacancies, appointing Ambassadors, and granting reprieves and pardons. Some presidents used the powers well, while others did not. The one president that used them the greatest was Washington, the greatest, and the first. He wielded the powers to impact the growing United States most effectively by signing treaties to enemies, passing acts,and trying out the National Bank.
From making decisions regarding an entire country, to deciding whether to pursue personal dreams, many difficult decisions have been made in the past. There are many examples in history where the results of not acting are greater and far more devastating than those of a failed chance. Although the outcome is sometimes unknown, taking a chance is essential to create many opportunities. When America was first established, president George Washington had a difficult decision to make regarding rebellious southerners-sending troops would address the issue, but there was a risk that the country would fight against the government’s power.
Part of being the president of the United States is to ensure the safety and well being of this country, which means that whoever it may be, must be confident, brave, and true. The United States has had many presidents that have met these expectations, but George Washington stands above them all. He was the quintessential leader. A key quality that can make or break a presidents career while in office is confidence.
Although unrelatable and underappreciated in the eyes of modern history, George Washington shows his greatness through his character. Contemporary culture often neglects to recognise Washington’s greatness. Sadly, he has become a figure so far removed from the ideals and lives of modern Americans, that his name often provokes boredom. Nonetheless, his character proved to be perfect for what America needed during his life. His greatness was largely due to chance.
A Victory for Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness Preceding the Revolutionary War the colonists were thought to be underdogs; however, they were a force to be reckoned with. Victory wasn’t easy but it wasn’t impossible either. The Thirteen colonies had good fortune in the fact that there were many skilled leaders among them. The leaders allowed American armies to learn military tactics and form foreign interventions.
Being a good leader does not necessarily mean shining in the spotlight. Some of the most revolutionary and successful leaders are the ones who worked the lights. Self-awareness, self-direction, vision, ability to motivate, and social awareness are the characteristics of a good leader according to SIY Leadership Institute (SIYLI). There have been many accomplished and renowned leaders in America since (and before) the 1770’s, ones whose names are universally known and others who are unfamiliar. Of the latter is Alexander Hamilton, who showed potential since the minute he was put on earth, for no matter what obstacles were thrown in his way he forged ahead and never threw away his shot.
“Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts...perhaps the fear of a loss of power,” says John Steinbeck. Some people feel that all they need to succeed is power and if they lose that power they will be nothing. Not accomplishing their aspirations and retributions could be apart of losing that power. The “fear of a loss of power” can be someone's key motivation to do what they feel is necessary to keep that power at their fingertips.
