Healthcare organizations are being held more accountable for practices today and are being evaluated not only by regulatory entities, competitors but also the consumers themselves. Organizations are being held to providing better quality of care and patient outcomes while also having to reduce cost. Quality measurements are broken up into three areas, either a structure, process or outcome. These measurements are used to evaluate and compare the quality of healthcare in the organizations. (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2011). Structural measures give consumers an idea of what the systems and processes that are in place. Process measures show what a provider does to maintain or improve health for healthy people as well as those with comorbidies. Outcome …show more content…
This method itself decreases inconsistency not only in the process immediately under research, but also in the overall approach to the research and improvement of processes for the organization. (Seecof, Donna. (2018). You could use six sigma method in several areas in healthcare. A few examples would be on customer service outcomes for patient wait times. First you would identify your goal; wait times less than 20 minutes, log what each patient wait time is/ how many patients are seen in a day, analyze all the data over a certain period (90 days), identify areas of improvement and how we are going to achieve those outcomes, and implement the change with education to the team members and monitor for outcomes). For medication errors we would need to identify our goal; medication error rate less than 5%, complete a monthly log of medication error with the time, location, type of error. Analyze the data over a timeframe (30 days), identify the processes or systems that aren’t working effectively and implement best practices/ provide education to the team and monitor the
