The Roaring Twenties The book written by Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, took place during the Roaring Twenties. The Roaring Twenties is known for over the top parties and extravagant music and clothing. It was known as a time for fun and a carefree lifestyle. Reading about the parties, Gatsby threw the jazz music, Gatsby listened to the way Jordan Baker defies the social norms of women, and the prohibition era, all found in the book, Great Gatsby, the reader can get a good look at what the Roaring Twenties was about. The Roaring Twenties had a lot of influence on the culture, activities, music, and clothing that can be found in the Great Gatsby.
In the Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway (the narrator), and Jay Gatsby were both veterans of World War I, and Gatsby's war service kicks off his rise from a “Mr. Nobody from Nowhere” and then goes to the wealthy owner of a mansion on West Egg, Long Island.“So-called “civilized” countries had declared war on each other for uncertain reasons, had fought to a stalemate in brutal trench warfare conditions, and had then negotiated a peace settlement that neither settled the underlying causes of tension nor truly brought peace.” (Khan Academy) .
