The Battle of Saratoga is really two battles, after capturing Fort Ticonderoga, General John Burgoyne led an British army of 8000men to join forces with General sir William Howe’s tropp at the Hudson River. Charging at a slow pace, it gave Americans time to prepare. General George Washington sent Benedict Arnold, Colonel Daniel Morgan, his riflemen, and two brigades. They rose about sixty-five hundred men strength. September 19, Burgoyne attacked, Benedict Arnold forced men out of his defensive and lead Morgan's men to block a British Column.
The Battle of Saratoga was an incredibly critical battle in the American Revolution. It is often considered the most crucial turning point in the war. The American victory in this battle was the greatest incentive for the French to decide to join the war effort as an American ally. This shift ultimately caused an overall American ascendancy over England; furthermore, many historians, as well as I, believe that it later caused the colonists to win the American Revolutionary War and gain independence. Leading up to this imperative battle, the British had devised a plan to divide and conquer the colonies to gain predominance over the Patriots.
Britain gained their title of being the most powerful force in the world after winning battle after battle in the past century; besides their victorious history, Britain also had other advantages going into the war, and because of this, they were the favored side to win the Revolutionary War. Their success was contributed by the authority that the British government had on their people, this authority caused an almost limitless amount of resources. The Parliament could obtain or raise any amount of funding needed to support their military and cover the costs of any other needs that would have had to have been met during this time, such as ships. This type of funding and vast resources readily available were not common in America as colonists
Winning a war is not easy, which is why the British hired a highly trained, German Mercenary group to fight the colonists. After a recent string of patriot victories, the British needed someone to help fight the colonists. So, they hired an army from Prince Frederick II of Hesse-Cassel to bolster their ranks, and gain control of the colonies. These mercenaries were known as the Hessians. The Hessians were German soldiers hired to help the British in the American Revolution, but after the war many of them deserted, and settled in America.
The Battle of Saratoga showed the world that the colonists had a chance at winning the war. The French Navy and French troops were instrumental in the Patriots’ success. The Battle of Yorktown is considered the end of the Revolutionary War, as Britain lost the will to fight and General Cornwallis surrendered. The French Navy stopped all reinforcements coming from New York and French troops assist in the bombardment of Yorktown. Cornwallis runs out of supplies under this constant bombardment and is forced to surrender.
In the Middle Ages all of the people had to respect the king and they all knew who he was at the time. The people back in those days never talked back to the king. If they didn’t respect the king or listen to him they would probably die. In the movie most of the people that king Arthur ran into during his quest didn’t know who he was and/or respected him.
Napoleon escaped and returned to France and resumed rule which history notes as a period of time called the hundred days. During which he fought the European coalition that had allied against him (cite). In a battle that historians refer to as the battle of Waterloo which had taken place sometime June 1815. After the battle of Waterloo Napoleon was exiled a second time but this time to the island St Helena, a remote British Island in the south Atlantic, where he died in exile on May 5th,
King Arthur is one of the best kings that has ruled over Britain, throughout all of history. Arthur ruled with honor, loyalty, and chivalry, which made him a great king. Many lessons that he learned on his journeys helped him to become the person that he is. Arthur’s journey becoming king can be seen in the novel The Sword in the Stone by T.H. White, and is very similar to Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.
King Arthur Throughout history there have been many myths and legends but none compare to The Legend of King Arthur. King Arthur was said to be a celtic king who ruled in camelot. According to Britannia.com Arthurs court had started around the middle ages somewhere around the time before the fall of rome. Not only is it one of the greatest myth/legends of all time but it also has made an impact in our media and gives us an insight on the visions and stories people that had lived during the downfall of the Roman Empire To some the legendary King Arthur was just a myth or folklore. Although there is no proof of whether he existed or not there are some people that believe he may have been real.
In the legend of King Arthur, some authors argue that Arthur was not as noble as believed, whereas others after the medieval period argue that he was a noble and chivalrous leader. Writers in the medieval period judge the personal qualities of King Arthur to determine whether he was chivalrous, whereas authors after the Middle Ages focus on his achievements. Arthur, after he pulls the sword from a stone, becomes the next king of England. Despite coming to power at a young age, he transformed a weak nation into one that would be a worldwide influence for centuries to come. Although he has achieved a lot, medieval authors such as Chrétien De Troyes maintain that Arthur was still not chivalrous because of an incident that occurred when Arthur was in his court.
But in King Arthur, he is the leader of the Woads other than that there is not much mention of him. Next, is a very important part of every story about King Arthur and that is Excalibur. Merlin, shows Arthur pulling it out of the Rock of Ages because he is a worthy man and will be a good leader. In contrast, King Arthur displays Arthur removing it from his father’s grave because of his great love for his mother. Lastly the ending of the two movies are complete opposites.
To what factors do you attribute Napoleon’s victory at Austerlitz ‘We are babies in the hands of a giant’ claimed Russian Tsar after the defeat of Austro-Russian forces against the Grande Armée, in the Battle of Austerlitz on 2 December 1805 (Fisher, 2001 p. 42). Indeed, the ‘sun of Austerlitz’ illuminated Na-poleon’s one of the most perfectly orchestrated battle and the Grande Armée’s first full appearance (McLynn, 1998 pp. 345-347). Consequently, France and Austria signed the Treaty of Pressburg. The Austrians exited the war and Russians agreed to withdraw home (Rothenberg, 1980 p. 46).
“King Arthur is a medieval, mythological figure who was the head of the kingdom Camelot and the Knights of the Round Table. It is not known if there was a real Arthur, though it is believed he may have been a Roman-affiliated military leader who successfully staved off a Saxon invasion during the 5th to 6th centuries” (King Arthur Biography). King Arthur is a figure that has been believed to be real, although many believe he is a real, there is no actual evidence to prove his existence. Arthur has been talked about in many stories, with that being said he has made it into the hearts of many individuals, especially the ones who believe in his existence. He is considered a legend due to his bravery and excellent skill to stay alive throughout 12 battles without even a scar.
The death of King Arthur is a really terrific movie, it goes into depth about the life of an amazing king. He nearly starts at the bottom of his village and ends up being the sole leader of the whole empire. He defends his nation with lots of enthusiasm, and also defends his nation until the very end. He’s depicted by many to be a love not a fighter. Arthur is conceived when his father, King Uther, sleeps with Igrayne when disguised as her husband.
Thomas Malory’s text also makes clear the significance of Arthur’s triumph in wielding Excalibur and obtaining his right to the throne. This is displayed when Sir Ector says “if ever it be God's will that I be king as ye say, ye shall desire of me what I may do, and I shall not fail you; God forbid I should fail you Sir, said Sir Ector, I will ask no more of you, but that ye will make my son, your foster brother, Sir Kay, seneschal of all your lands” (Malory
