Do you ever get upset when someone is being shamed online or even in public? Well I do, one women who put up with this her whole life was Monica Lewinsky. She was a patient zero of losing a personal reputation on a global scale almost instanteously, as what she talked about in her Price of Shame Ted Talk. Ms. Lewinsky believed that shaming over the web or in person is bad. I personal agree with her on this because no one likes being made fun of. In her presentation she explained three key evidences that I will use to explain why shaming is bad. In case you are not familiar with snapchat it’s basically an app that you can send photos and videos to someone and the photos will disappear within a couple of seconds. Whenever something is leaked online it basically means in Ms. Lewinsky words “a life span of forever.” But could you imagine going online and finding an inappropriate photo of yourself that someone had posted of you on social media. My Second piece of evidence is disturbing but stay with me it’s the Tyler Clementi case. But before I talk about the case Ms. Lewinsky too felt quote on quote “that public humiliation was excruciating, and life was unbearable. When she means that “humiliation was excruciating” she was talking about how bad the humiliation was to her, when people say excruciating pain it means that the pain is intensely painful that’s how Ms. Lewinsky felt when she was exposed. Going back to the Tyler Clementi case, Tyler was a college freshman at Rutgers University and he was secretly being filmed by his roommate while being intimate with another man. By this being said shaming happens not just online but in person as well according to Ms. Lewinsky. With Jennifer Lawrence her I cloud account was hacked, and private information, nude photos were put all over the internet. Could you imagine how Jennifer Laurence feels? She must feel so bad that I can’t even explain it. There was this one gossip website that had 5 million hits for this story. Most of the time the gossip websites are getting money from what is leaked about celebrities for this case Jennifer Lawrence. In Conclusion there are a lot of events or evidence that prove that shaming is bad. Whether it’s the Snapchat case where the servers got hacked, or the Tyler Clementi Suicide, or even the Jennifer Lawrence I cloud hack shaming is bad. As what Ms. Lewinsky had said about herself as being the patient zero you lose your reputation as a person and lose you’re yourself esteem. Shaming is bad we all know it but why do we do it? No one likes it when they get shamed in public or shamed online. How would you feel if someone shamed you? You probably wouldn’t like it. If I can at least prevent one person
