Why Should Kids Get Paid For Chores
Teenagers love money. However, the problem with earning money is that kids are too busy to get a job. Or a job is not enough money for their needs, especially in this changing economy. Jeffrey Selingo, in his piece “Why More Teenagers and College Students Need to Work While in School,” argues that more kids should work while pursuing their education. He expresses the importance of finding time for a job, and that making money is not the only thing teenagers gain from a job.
Implementing this duty at such a young age makes these tasks seem regular to the child. This is clearly shown in Jeannette Walls's The Glass Castle. At age 13, when Jeannette is left home alone for two months to take care of her younger siblings; her mother gives her $200 to pay for expenses. When first given the money she focuses on paying for utility bills and food. Jeannette comes up with a well organized budget plan to finance themselves.
The trash has to be taken out, and the house has to be cleaned. I help my mom around the house all the time, but I never get paid. Chores are a responsibility that kids have, and need to accept. Kids think they should get paid to do chores, but parents think otherwise. There is a disagreement about getting paid for chores.
Have you ever thought about why you don’t get paid to do chores. My parents get paid to do their job so why don’t I. Kids need to get paid to do chores and work around the houses. Kids do a lot of work and do not get paid to work. In the article Should Kids Get Paid to Do Chores Megan says, “This plan will make your life easier.”
Some people may think kids should get paid for doing chores, Megan’s argument why kids should get paid for doing chores was it teaches them responsibility. ”I will also learn responsibility…another benefit is that I will learn how to manage my money” (Megan 26). Yes, money will teach kids responsibility but another part of responsibility is doing something not for money but because it’s your duty. Getting rewarded for you done is childish; to illustrate when a child does something good like do their homework or be nice to others than their parents and teacher will reward them with a treat or toy. Thus, kids shouldn’t get paid for doing chores.
Almost any child would work hard for cash. Those are some reasons why kids should get paid for good grades. First of all, students should get paid for having good grades because money for grades provides real, career-like rewards. Hers is a quote from a website called GreatSchools.org. “ Cash for grades programs may jump start motivation by providing real world rewards for their effort and performance.
I think that paying student should happen because if we get paid we have more motivation to do the work and have more reasons to do better. Every year 1.2 million people drop out of school because of no motivation. Plus if we save up we can pay for college. If we have motivation we have more control of our grades.
Some children have extracurricular activities and some may even have jobs. It is difficult for them to juggle all these items at once. In other words, if students did not receive homework and were required to do other items, then countless benefits would be shown. Students attending K-12 public schools in the United States should not receive homework
Should kids be paid for chores? Do you get paid for your job, then why shouldn’t kids too? Your kids or future kids should be paid for their job. Do you want to be responsible for your child/future child’s struggle in life? Kids should be paid for chores because it helps them with life lessons, value, and last but not least it gives kids a better personality.
They might also think theyŕe not as smart as they really are. All of these are reasons why kids should be assigned homework. Paragraph Five - Conclusion In conclusion kids should be assigned homework. One reason why this is true is because if kids have homework it gives kids and parents a chance to bond.
Schools are just like jobs. The boss expects the workers to stay on task and do their work well. Teachers want students to work hard and also do their work with effort. If schools really want students to succeed, shouldn’t they be paid? Paying students motivate them to work hard to learn the criteria.
First of all, students should not be paid for good grades due to not needed pressure. The NEA claims : many teachers say, “Paying students for good grades leads to practical problems in their classrooms, including pressure to inflate grades and conflict with students and parents.” This means students are more likely to be in bad moods and have bad relationships with parents and classmates. If some kids get money and the rest don’t, arguments will break out. In a classroom, students are supposed to be respectful to each other in order to have and efficient working environment.
Lastly, paying students will only help in the short run not the long run. Paying a student is a horrible idea because it takes the motivation of learning from a student, they can cheat, and it only helps in the short run. First of all, schools should not pay students for good grades because they can lose their motivation to learn. Edward Deci says, “Most children are by nature motivated to learn,”. This can lead to no interest in learning.

Children under the age of 18 should never be punished and tried as adults, instead they should undergo mandatory rehabilitation. This is because children’s brains are not fully developed and adult prisons dont provided proper rehabilitation geared towards children.
