The Haitian Revolution took place in 1791 on the island of St. Domingue (Haiti). Saint-Domingue (present-day Haiti) was entirely the product of the French colonists' slaveholding policies and practices. Society was structured for the rapid production of wealth for the planters and their investors in France. The causes of the Haitian Revolution were slavery, equality, and sugar. The Haitian people were done being used and put to work for the better of the french.
