Many places on our globe have holidays for specific people. Many people in our history do not have a holiday dedicated to what they did. Cesar Chavez is one of those people, and he should have not just a state holiday, but a national holiday. Cesar Chavez was a Mexican-American activist and labor leader who founded many farmer organizations. He is considered a modern day activist for the time he was alive. He also formed movements and a union for farm workers, in which he fought for the lives of farmers in four states. There is a holiday or a day to remember him for what he did in California, but not a national holiday in the United States. Chavez was a leader to the Latino farmers, and led them to better working conditions. Chavez is known for the social justice work he did. After his death, he was nominated for two medals. Those two medals are for the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He got a holiday in the state of California, and he was put on a U.S. Stamp. He was also in the first group of inductees for the 2006 California Hall of Fame. Ronald Regan, Chavez’s enemy, and naturalist John Muir were two posthumous awardees (León 857). March 31st is his birthday and the date that he founded his organization. His organization was founded on March 31st, 1962. This day should be dedicated to him for what he has done for many farm workers, and for what he as done to improve the conditions that farmers had in his childhood. He has fasted for these workers, and he deserves a holiday for what he did in his life. The reason why he should have his holiday on March 31st because of his foundation of his union.
