This is interesting to see how far back in history women were still trying to get rights and veto laws that were set against them. Men were always trying to keep themselves in power afraid of what women would do if they were treated as equals. This passage is geared toward other men and has a bias against women. This has a bias stand point due to there is no written words from a woman from this era stating how they felt and how they were treated. The passage is written as if women are the bad people and will always want more if given the opportunity.
Congress’s power to limit freedom of speech in any way is not included in the enumerated powers listed in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution (20-21). The states, if anyone, are the only governments that might posses the power to limit free speech (21). Government officials, however, obviously have no regard for the Constitution or freedom of speech and are acting upon their own desires and values (21). Many examples of freedom of speech infringement are given throughout this book, and the author shows how these kinds of laws are enacted throughout history.
An official document from the National American Woman Suffrage Association describes the many reasons that females should get the vote. More than a few complaints talk about the unfair treatment of women by men, such as the final statement, which reads, “They should vote equally with men, because women are citizens of a govekrnment of the people, by the people, and for the people, and women are people” (Document 7). When someone holds power over another person, a tactic that is used to validate this dehumanization. Men disregarded women so denying them the right to participate in a free government was an easy rejection. And while men saw these strong women as a threat to their power, women saw the leaders of this movement as saviors.

In conclusion, the author is speaking to her fellow women and the to the wrong white men of the United States. Her purpose of making this speech is that woman have just as much right to vote as white men do.
This essential right is protected by law, and listed immediately in the text. This truly highlights just how important it is to be able to speak, write, and share ideas freely. Information should not be denied based off of one group’s views. Our founding fathers stood up for this right, one that does not include censorship of any kind. To have a law that goes against this principle invalidates the law itself.
