Wic Family Policy

One of the social policies that have impacted me during my life is WIC, a mother of three WIC was a huge help especially with being a mother to a set of twins. WIC was able to help provide nutrition for my children up until the age of five. This was especially important with one income in the household. WIC supplied formula, cereal, juice, eggs, milk, peanut butter, and cheese. Since then WIC has enhanced and they provide fruit, tuna fish, and salmon in addition to the items listed above.

The primary goal for TANF is to provide Temporary Assistance for Needy Families with a combination of cash assistance and work opportunities. The monthly cash assistance helps to pay for things such as utilities, clothing, transportation, and other expenses. This program offers transitional services in helping families become independent such as GED preparation, vocational rehabilitation, and job retention. Although, this program established to help families to obtain self- sufficiency it lacks in providing childcare for families. In most cases families or single mothers are not able to take advantage of TANF because of the childcare situation. Once a client agrees to the terms and conditions of the program they can be sanctioned and lose their benefits such as food stamps and Medicaid. As this program has certain stipulations and criteria that a client is required to meet, they have to work a certain number of hours a week, meet with their coach, attend interviews meanwhile trying to find childcare for their children. This places, a single parent in a difficult position although Our goal the client gains self- sufficiency however, if there is no childcare in place this defeats the purpose, and deters the client from meeting or achieving their goal.
