The Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) have a legal responsibility under the Wild Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act to ensure that protected wild horses on federal lands do not end up being rounded up or slaughtered.

There are several ways to get involved in helping save the Salt River wild horses and other wild horses in the US. You could sign the petitions or contact advocacy groups who organize events, legally intervene to halt roundups, and work with the government agencies to find solutions.

Goals of the SRWHMG

1. To protect the Salt River Wild Horses from Harm.

2. To closely study and keep records of the births, deaths, injuries, migrating patterns and herd dynamics for research purposes and to give a scientific perspective on this historic wild horse herd.

3. To identify problems, shortcomings and safety hazards of the area and work with state and local agencies to find and implement cost effective solutions.

4. To educate people about the wild horses in order to advance both the safety of people and the safety of wild horses.
