“Willa Cather, writer and poet, was born in Back Creek Valley, Virginia, on December 7, 1873, the eldest of seven children raised by Charles and Virginia Cather. (Thacker, n.d.)” Throughout her life Cather achieved a lot. One of her first accomplishments was when it came for high school graduation she was valedictorian, somewhat of a shocker for many due to the fact she was an African American in the 19th century, they were not expected to progress much in life. Following that she later attends college graduating in 1895, being one of the many few woman to graduate in this time as well. When I read this line all I could think about was in life we tend to get comfortable with materials objects, lifestyles or even people around us creating this inseparable bond between yourself and it. We forget to realize everything in life is temporary, we forget that today everything can be good but tomorrow it will be all gone. Today we can have the best life ever or the person you love by your side but tomorrow that is not guaranteed the same spot and those are things we will just have to learn to adapt to. Change happens on a daily basis but we pay no mind until it is something or someone who plays an impacting role in your life. Later on in life we will be put into situations which we will remember that memory and place ourselves back into that moment but have to accept the fact that it is now just a memory and that reality has changed. Adapting is a part of living so clinging on is something Aunt Georgina did not want Clark to do for she knows what it feels like to live well to later have
