Final Assessment Lord of the Flies Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, is a book about boys who get stuck on an island. The main characters, Piggy and Ralph, go through many challenges. Piggy, who has Asthma, is also a little chubby and big. Because of this, he is always made fun of. Ralph, Piggy’s friend and the Chief of the tribe, tries to protect Piggy.

In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, a group of young boys find themselves on a small, tropical island forced to find food and create shelter. The boys have difficulty creating their own civilization through the little necessities the island has to offer them. They all arrive with a plan to create shelter, follow rules, and look out for each other on the island, but their plan soon turns on them when the two main characters Ralph and Jack start to battle each other on who would be the better leader of the group. The destitute island changes the character Jack to be overbearing and dominant over the other boys because of his strength and love for hunting. Jack’s leadership becomes cruel and harsh when he realizes he loves power.
Change, it’s something everyone witnesses at one point or another in their lives. In William Golding’s short story, Lord of the Flies, change is a foundation on the internal and external issues between the many boys on the island. Between the three boys Ralph, Jack and Piggy, change is seen the most in the sense of developing their characters. Ralph is shown as a leader to the boys in the beginning by bringing all the boys together, but as the book goes on Ralph loses his strength in influence. Jack is seen as an impulsive and power thirsty character to most, as he develops over the span of the book those initial traits are heightened.

Clashing Characteristics of Characters In the novel Lord of the Flies, Jack displays savage like qualities that exhibit his destructive motives as well depicting his character as inadequate. In the paragraph describing his forest the language used presents the scenery as primitive and alarming. Simon’s forest however, is described using imagery in order to portray beautiful scenery. His forest represents the calming and tranquil mood that he displays throughout the novel.
