The play Hamlet by William Shakespeare centers on suicide and revenge. In Hamlet's second soliloquy (To Be Or Not To Be) he contemplates suicide. Hamlet questions himself and his thoughts often change a lot due to his relatively strange personality. He contemplates whether or not he should continue or end his own life. Hamlet compares death to a little sleep, which he thinks wouldn't be so bad. Hamlet is also seeking revenge for his father’s death. Hamlet had just learned that his Uncle Claudius has murdered his father. Then the ghost of Hamlet’s father appears to Hamlet and tells him to avenge his murder. Hamlet swears he will do so, but then Hamlet becomes hesitant to kill him. Hamlet pretends to be mad while he gathers more evidence
