Dr. Jordan weighs conflict between science and religion on the terms of reconciliation in the text Science and Religion in the American thought by William White. In Chapter one The Warfare of Science and Religion the subject of debate is between God and evolution. In 1873 John William Draper History published The Conflict of Religion arguing that science and religion were in conflict and religion maintained power through the institution of the church. Alternatively, the idea was science sought to destroy the church by demonstrating human origins of a religious tradition. On the other hand, Andrew Dickenson White of Cornell produced literature History of the Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom. Dr. David Starr Jordan, the Chancellor Emeritus of Stanford University, author on Science and Sciosophy endorsed White’s literary works. Drapers objective mainly fought the church while White against evolution. However, at the turn of the century, the process of natural science began. However, Harvard Professor John Fiske believed in social Darwinism of his generation. John Fiske found both science and religion worked towards to the same end. Furthermore, Fiske believes science and religion perform different functions in a common task.

History proves religion is interwoven transcendent throughout history. Thus refuting its existence seems unfathomable. Religion and morality cannot divide as the characteristics are reflective. Therefore each people spiritually may express differently given their own beliefs and experiences. Similar to Darwin’s theory stemmed from the loss of a loved one. Thus, science cannot explain the spiritual phenomenon. Although science may not find the source and timeline of our existence, science can find answers to how to exist in the ever-changing habit
