William Wilson: What is His Deal? What would it take for a person to kill? Is it as simple as envy, or is it an underlying illness that makes the person react that way. In the short story “William Wilson” by Edgar Allan Poe, the main character who is referred to as William Wilson is being tormented by someone of the same name. This constant suffering results in the narrator stabbing the other to death, only to find out that he has actually stabbed himself.
