Winnie the Pooh was a character originally created by A. A. Milne and used in many of his short stories. Pooh is a very simple minded, soft spoken bear who happens to, as most bears, love to eat honey. He doesn’t think too hard like Owl or Rabbit and he doesn’t worry as much as Eeyore and Piglet. Pooh isn’t necessarily a leader, rather he just goes along with the flow, per se, and seems to be happier than any of the other characters. He loves to just visit his friends whenever without any reason other than it is a nice day and wants to see his friends. He believes in friendship, having a positive personality, and showing unconditional kindness to all he encounters. Benjamin Hoff describes Pooh in his book The Tao of Pooh as the defining principle of simplicity and inner nature that the philosophy of Taoism is centered on. The biggest one being the importance of friendship. Like Pooh, I like to hold close onto my friendships. I do not have numerous amounts of friends, however the handful that I do are close. Throughout high school I have obtained a close friendship with roughly 5 friends that are dear to me. Like Pooh’s friends, mine are all different, however we all share common interests and respect each other through and through. Pooh also believes in unconditional kindness. In all honesty, I do not stick to this as much as him. As a child I did, but as I grew into high school, I began to stray from this belief. However, over the past summer I have spent a great deal of time with my ninety year uncle who happens to be the kindest person I have ever met. I believe that spending time with him has showed me the importance of unconditional kindness. Lastly, the belief of an optimistic attitude is one I share with Pooh.
