Daniel Felsenfeld’s “Rebel Music” is about how he found his love and passion in classical music. As a teenager he felt like he was going through a “personal drought” because it seemed like he had a dry lack in the culture of music. His friend Mike introduced him to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and finally found music for the first time. I found the article interesting because he played the piano and then stopped going to lessons, but then after listening to Beethoven he was instantly hooked and became a composer later on in life. The Era of Enlightenment was a cultural movement in Europe that favored reason in place of belief. It challenged the accepted views of the time which, in turn, endangered the power of absolute rulers and their system of government. This era influenced a majority of the European population, however, the monarchs of the time did not exemplify those same ideals. Catherine II of Russia’s views on serfs and peasants are a great example of a ruler defying the enlightenment movement. In her “Decree on Serfs” she states that “serfs and peasants...owe their landlords proper submission and absolute obedience in all matters” , essentially saying that serfs of the time should be completely obedient to their masters (Doc. 6).

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of "The Mozart Effect: Music for Children ' ' collection on children 's social, cognitive, and physical development ages five and six years. The study consisted of forty-two children. Twenty-one of the children were placed in an experimental group and were exposed to Mozart 's music along with their daily school routine for eight months. While the control group, in the same kindergarten, followed an identical curriculum, yet did not experience any accompanying music in their daily routine (Campbell, D., 1997).
