Wolf Population And Endangered Species

Wolves have been on and off of the endangered species list in many different countries and states, but everytime time they believe that the wolf population has stabilized, they always get hunted and trapped back down to where they started. As of right now they are debating whether or not to get rid of the wolves federal protection since they seem to be stabilizing and it is causing a lot of money for the government to keep them on the list. People are very outraged by them even considering taking them off, especially biologists who they are ignoring. Wolves should stay on the endangered species list because they believe that they are stabilizing but the numbers show that this not the case and wolves are actually struggling to stay afloat and …show more content…

People still believe that if we let the wolf population grow that it would put other animals into risk of extinction because they believe that wolves are savages. But statistics have shown that the only reason why a wolf would attack a human is either because they are starving and need food or because the human looks threatening or is threatening the wolves habitat and home. Scientists have also discovered that wolves don’t normally go after healthy animals because they have a keen sense to detect when a animal has a disease or is injured. So the wolves actually kill the diseased animals letting the disease not spread to other animals. Wolves also actually eat dead animal carcasses that are lying in the ground which in return helps keep the forest healthy from animals contracting diseases from the carcass. If wolves were not around to help clean up the forests then we would have to do it because if we left it alone then animal diseases would spread rapidly and who knows if they would be contagious to humans also. One of the main reasons why people have killed wolves throughout history is because people have this mindset that if wolves are around than people will die, babies will go missing and livestock will be found dead on the field. Wolves should be kept on the endangered species list because as seen through evidence they help the environment in many ways that people don’t always see. Imagine a world where wolves don’t keep the deer numbers in check or kill off diseased/injured animals, the whole ecosystems of some areas would be completely ruined. Other animal species would die out if wolves are their main predator because they would begin to over populate which would leave them to over using their food supplies and then starving to death. Animals would have to be forced onto the endangered species list costing us tons of money only for it not to really help. It would be sort of like a chain reaction if wolves were to be taken of the list and then go extinct, and we never know if that chain reaction would affect us very badly or if it not affect us at all until it is to
