The American domestic society shifted after the attack of Pearl Harbor and men from all over the U.S. were deployed to help in the fight. Due to the depression, there was a huge labor shortage in the work force meaning women had to step up to the plate and go through experiences that they have never previously gone through before. The family dynamic completely changed and made roles in a "typical family" shift. Women were exchanging their spatulas for wrenches. Throughout this essay I plan on discussing the some of the significant changes to the American domestic society and to America’s position in the world brought by World War II. Previously, the economy was inadequate and struggling before World War II. There were very few jobs that were being held or that were hiring so the employment rate was low. Without the occurrence of the war, and the many jobs that were created the economy wouldn't have been what it ended up being in the 1940’s and 50’s. The shift from women being more prominent in the work force has had a lasting affect and impact on the world today and is what led to things like women rights and equality. The Cold War impacted culture, entertainment and athletics. It had a vital role in the development of science and technology in the United States. The Cold War also had a major affect on the practice of religion, education, and politics. For those forty-five years, Americans and the world lived under a cloud of deep anxiety for years. The fall out bomb shells became a selling point for the real estate agents. Even six year olds, back in the fifties, scrambled and ducked for cover by hiding under their desks.
