The purpose of the study is to bring together different streams of RH research, namely on unsafe abortion, sex selective abortions and the adverse socio-economic effects these have on women and society in India. Reproductive health services in India (and in other parts of the world) are an important indicator of national response to women’s needs and the public health infrastructure (or the lack thereof), and it is imperative (and useful!) to take into consideration global advocacy in order to validate arguments for Comprehensive Abortion Care and to evidence a case against gender disparity.
The specific objectives of this discursive analysis are to provide:
1. Increased clarity about the status of medical termination of pregnancies in India, reflecting the conflating and conflicting legislations and perception surrounding abortion.
