The Revolutionary War which is also known as the American Revolution came into existence on April 19, 1775, because the American colonist believed they should have been getting all of the rights of Englishmen but they were not receiving any rights. Various types of roles were played by black people during the Revolution. Women took on many role during the Revolutionary War. The most common roles for women in the Revolutionary War were cooks, maids, and seamstresses for the army. Women were the first ones to have these jobs in the military because the military was only soldiers. Since women were not allowed to join the military they hide their identity and played secret soldiers during the war. Women soldiers usually labeled themselves as men by cutting their hair and customize masculine names. Many women had to defend and protect their homes and families from attacks by British and Native American troops. Women sewed uniforms and blankets for the soldiers. During the phase of settlement women received jobs outside the home and even taxing jobs. For African American women, the Revolutionary War impacted their lives. Slavery continued in every state, except for Massachusetts. Many African Americans were continuously abused by their mistresses, and criticized by their male coworkers. (Brooks,2013). The rights of citizenship were not prolonged to African American women, and any favorable outcome they achieved was only allowed and used in a certain area. Native American women had more power than Europeans. A major number of Native Americans sided with the British and a small amount of them sided with the Colonists. Native Americans provided strategic military assistance that decide the struggle on the opposing side. They hunted and grew crops for the side they were on.
