The American Revolution started in 1775, at Lexington and Concord. It all began when the British were abusing the colonists. The British started to use many different resources in daily life. They taxed sugar, stamps, and tea. After this, many protests and battles struck between the British and colonists. Battles like Trenton, Yorktown, Princeton, and Saratoga, the colonists won these battles. Women and African Americans played roles in the American Revolution. Women played numerous roles in the American Revolution. One role was, they picked up on some of the mens jobs. According to document 2 it states, “With their husbands away fighting, some women had to take over as weavers, carpenters, blacksmiths, or shipbuilding.” This indicates how …show more content…

This reveals how tough Molly Pitcher was. She was out there wearing a dress while loading the cannon. All in all, these are the roles that show how women helped in the American Revolution. African Americans played lots of roles during the American Revolution. One role was, African Americans were accepted to fight in the army. According to document 5, it states, “Many a runaway told the nearest recruiter that he was a freeman, anxious to fight. More often than not, he was accepted without too many questions; the army was always short of men.” Even though the African Americans secretly lied about being free men, they still went into the army. A certain African American man that sticks out to me is Peter Salem. Document 6 shows a painting of Peter Salem, a colonist. Peter is standing there with a gun, and the British man Major Pitcairn is falling down. This indicates that Peter has shot the British man. Peter was probably shooting Major Pitcairn because he was a British and at that time colonists and African Americans wanted freedom.
