The Progressive Era, a period in history from the late 1800s to the early 1900s marked significant transformations in society, politics and the economy. It was a time of pushing for reforms to combat the inequalities brought on by industrialization. It gained momentum while America's imperialist ambitions expanded globally. Jane Adams represented the struggle of progressive reformers via Hull House. The Hull House expanded the services like childcare, education, health care, etc.
From the late 18th century to the early 19th century, progressives fought to draw attention to America's problems. From social, economic and political problems, Americans brought these issues to the government to listen to them. The progressive movement is dedicated to improving the lives of Americans by creating programs to provide relief. Some beneficial reforms that were important in the progressive era were the birth control movement, the Square Deal, and the temperance movement. The birth control movement was a social reform program that advocated for both the availability and acceptance of contraceptive devices.
The fight for their rights became known as the Progressive Era. Activists kept fighting for equal rights and opportunities (Dumenil p. 23). Women leaders wanted to expand their political influence and knowledge (Dumenil p. 22). Women found it was unfair that they could only work in low status jobs. The

One method women used to earn support is that they organized a parade in Washington, D.C., the same day the president was coming into town so that there was large crowds. Many of the people in the crowd were men who, along with drinking also disagreed with the right for women to vote. They began to yell then even throw objects at the women walking in the parade. Eventually, the police walked away giving the men the opportunity to attack.

The progressive era was a period in time where citizens came together to fight for different, social and political reforms throughout the country. There were unsafe working conditions for children, women, and men, there were powerful businesses that ran the economy, and more. Reformers wrote about corrupt businesses and working environments to try and get better laws as an outcome. Progressive era reformers were effective in shaping the mandates that were being created by the government. The different social, political, and economic reforms that took place shaped the government and the new laws that were created, improving the lives of all.
The Progressive Era was a period in the United States that changed the way people thought about things including labor and voting rights, politics, education, industry, etc. A vast amount of policies and laws came out of the Progressive Era that improved the lives of individual people and society. The Progressive Era from 1890 to 1920 helped shape the world we live in today, many people pushed to earn the rights that they were born with and also help make America an easier place to live in. Women of that time pushed immensely to obtain the same rights that the white men had. Civil rights was also a huge factor as many groups were formed in order to bring equality into our society. Companies around those times also began to monopolize the market and ran many small businesses out of business. If these reforms were proposed to James Madison today for adaptation by the federal government, he would not support women’s suffrage or civil rights.
The progressive era which lasted from 1890-1920 in American society was the institution of radical reforms brought about by the millions of Americans involved in volunteer organizations across the country. During this time Americans worked to create solutions to the problems caused by the rapid industrialization and urbanization of the country. The progressive era was not a single movement, but rather a collection of movements all of which were intended to improve the lives of Americans. This was a truly remarkable time for women and the end of the era would see almost universal women’s suffrage with the passing of the nineteenth amendment in 1920.
