Canada proved that they were worth having as an Allie during World War 1. They showed how powerful and tough they could be even with the small world status they had at the time. During World War 2, they had something to prove. During this war Canada became more involved than before, and really showed how effective they could be. As one of the Allied forces, Canada from the beginning of the war in 1939 to the conclusion in 1945 contributed immensely towards the winning efforts of the war. Canada provided many of their resources to support the allied forces and showed their tireless commitment towards their winning effort of the war. Canadian sailors, soldiers and airmen played an especially key role in the invasion of Normandy. This bloody campaign had the purpose of liberating Western Europe from Nazi occupation. Around 14000 Canadian soldiers were deployed at Juno Beach for the battle, the royal Canadian army also contributed 110 ships and around 10000 sailors were also deployed, 15 fighter squadrons were also deployed for the assault. These troops did heavy damage towards the enemy and helped shorten their troops and their artillery, which helped immensely towards the allied forces' efforts. The Canadian forces worked tirelessly during this battle, and with this came a great sum of causalities. 1074 Canadian soldiers were lost on this day, with 359 Canadians being killed in action. Even though this battle was not necessarily a success, it was one of the very needed first steps in the campaign. Which was securing Normandy beach, allowing many waves of troops, tanks, artillery to safely arrive ashore. 1 With months of planning and all the time dedicated to this day, the Canadian soldiers proved how valuable they are to the allied forces. They provided toughness and dedication towards the allied forces and played a significant role in securing the beaches in Normandy.

Even though this battle was lost by the allies, the Canadian soldiers still proved themselves as valuable allies. During the battle, the Canadian soldiers lead the charge for the allied forces. Having deployed the most troops to this battle with 5000 of the 6100 troops being Canadian soldiers.3 Which was one of the first times Canadian troops lead an attack of this size. The raid on Dieppe took place on August 19, 1942, where forces attacked through different points. This attack was meant to be a very stealthy one but was found out quickly by the Germans, who were ready to defend. Once the Allies touched down on enemy lines, they did not stand a chance. The Germans were well staffed and ready for battle. The aftermath of this battle was very troubling, the death toll for Canadian soldiers and the allies was at an all-time high. This battle was considered one of the greatest losses in terms of manpower for the allies. The Canadian army also lost a lot of airships because of this battle, which was very devasting for the Allies. This battle also had a few positives, which was a much-needed change of tactics that helped the allies secure a victory during the battle of Normandy. 3Overall, the loss of this battle was devasting for the allies, but also saw the massive contributions from the Canadian army which made this attack
