History Paper-Georgia Shipley 02-11-16 Although the US Civil War and World War I had a lot of differences they also had a lot of similarities in the way the world war was fought. New technologies and weapons changed the future of the war including new tactics used on the battlefield and the way the war was fought during the American Civil War. Most of these were used for the very first time. During World War I many advances in science and technology were introduced into modern warfare. This change the nature of war including battle strategies and tactics. Scientists and inventors worked through the war to improve weapon technology in order to give their side an edge in fighting. sub marines and also telegraph and radio. World War I was the first war to use airplanes. Originally the airplanes were used to spy on the enemies and troops. By the end of the war they use the airplanes to drop bombs on troops and cities. They also mounted machine guns on some of the airplanes so they could shoot down other planes. In the Civil War they did not have airplanes yet so they used hot air balloon. The North would fly balloons over the enemies to determine their movement and location. The South soon figured this out and started using camouflage in order to not be seen and shoot them down. Tanks were first introduced during world war one. Armed vehicles were used to cross no man’s land between trenches. They had guns and cannons mounted on the front of them. The first tanks were very hard to steer however they became more effective by the end of the war. During the civil war they used submarines which was the first time these were used. These ships were made of steel or iron and impossible to sink with weapons attached. This changed the way ships were used in battle. Another big difference in the wars was the use of the telegraph in the civil war. This changed the way this war was fought by allowing people to communicate faster through this method and get updated information. This was an advantage for the north. During World War 1 they had the use of radios
