The First World War began in August of 1914, when Austria declared war on Serbia, Russia on Austria and then Germany on Russia until the whole continent became involved. But most historians suggest that the war began many years before that and it had been building up until it would finally break loose and a war begins. The spark that set off and triggered the war was the assassination of he Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand and other issues like Alliances and militarism where causes that lead to the war. The assassination of archduke Franz Ferdinand was the flame that ignited the First World War. Archduke Franz Ferdinand was next in line to inherit the throne form Emperor Franz Josef of the Austro Hungarian Empire. Military advancements helped countries to become more dominant during the war. This was helped by the creation of new weapons like machine guns, Automatic Arms, and other weapons like poison gas, grenades. Militarism also help create trench warfare, It also caused unrestricted submarine warfare, which was when unrestricted submarines would blow up enemies ships. Like when the Germans blew up the Lusitania with lots of U.S. citizens and soldiers were onboard the ship and were killed by the missile. So the U.S. threatened Germany to either ceasefire or else they would enter the war. The Germans didn’t listen and did it again on another British war ship. So the U.S. were forced to join the war. This didn’t make the U.S. citizens very happy because they were afraid that the Germans would be attacked. The U.S. were prepared because they were also pretty far ahead in military advancements. Militarism was a very strong cause because if there weren’t any advancement in military technology, there would not be a total war. Thus with militarism the fear of being attacked was such a factor that it forced countries to attack
