Airplanes played another huge part in World War 2. They had many uses for planes. They were used for transportation, spy planes, dog fighting, and bombing. There were a lot of plane types the US had. Planes became an important tool and come people got really good at flying them and fighting other planes.
Different plane types had different roles. There was the P-38 Lockheed Lightning, P-40 Curtiss Warhawk, and the P-47 Republic Thunderbolt. Of course these are not the only planes that were in World war 2.

The final attack was also by aircraft when the US dropped the atomic bomb in Japan on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There were three main uses for planes. They were used for fighters, bombers, and transportation. Fighter planes were used in air to air fights. They would try to shoot down enemy fighters and bombers. They would also try to protect their own bomber. Bomber planes were bigger and could carry bombs. They would carry and drop bombs onto enemies. The bombers could vary in size from light, medium, and heavy. Bombers would also have machine guns at the tail end to fight off other planes trying to shoot them down. Lastly, transport planes were a huge part of the war. They would carry troops and supplies around the world and battlefields. Most of these planes were regular planes that civilians flew on but were adapted to the war. A couple of them were the U.S. Douglas C-47 and the U.S. C54 Skymaster.
