WWII Propaganda The first poster that I designed was WWII American propaganda. In order to get a clear understanding of what the mindset was at time I looked at actual posters designed at that time. Many were about conservation of resources or war bonds. They depicted soldiers, children, and everyday people. The mindset that no deed was to small was prevailing in American propaganda. I designed a war bonds poster I used colloquial speech (‘Em) which I saw on several examples. I also drew a solider which was also a popular theme of many posters. In my poster a U.S. solider was standing with one foot on the Nazi flag and holding the Japanese flag triumphantly in the other hand. Their posters seemed a lot fewer and a lot simpler than the U.S. posters. Most depicted the stereotypical perfect blonde hair blue eyed German which I also used. Many of their posters were more militaristic, less families, more marching and saluting. All of the posters were in a simple bold cartoon style that lacked details and shading, which I attempted to recreate. I mimicked the serious military vibe with gray atmosphere a serious looking solider and the Nazi flag to round out the colors. Also I wrote SIEG on the top which is the German word for Victory. The serious intense mood of the poster reflects the Germans approach to the war as well. The Rah Rah everyone band together theme of the U.S. posters seemed to also reflect in their attitude to the war too. The last poster I made was Russian it is a good example of some of the more dark posters. It shows a Russian soldier as a skeleton climbing a pile of artillery surrounded by fire. At the top it says “Российские Дьяволы !” which means Russian Devils. I didn’t really see this theme In Russian propaganda I just thought it was cool. However I got the idea from some anti-Russian German propaganda. The Germans portrayed the Russians as wolves and skeletons but if I had been the Russians I would have been okay if my enemy saw me as something to be feared so I flipped the
