Cara Knott was a 20-year-old living in California who was enrolled at San Diego State University. On December 27th, 1986, she was driving home from her boyfriend's house. She called her parents to let them know she was on her way home but never got there. The following day, her car was found on a dead-end road. Along with suspicious skid marks (53 between them), insinuating a large vehicle that did not match the car she was driving.
Facts: Earl Enmund along with a codefendant at the Florida Supreme Court, was convicted of first-degree murder and robbery as well as given the death penalty. Enmund was not present at the time of the murder, he was in the car waiting for the codefendant to return in order to escape. Under Florida law Enmund was made the aider and abettor meaning that he can be held to the same extent as the principal. Issue: Does the death sentence violate the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment for someone who did not commit the murder but was the getaway driver? Reasoning:
On August 9, 2014, Darren Wilson, a white police officer, shot and killed Michael Brown, who was an unarmed African American teenager in Ferguson Missouri. The jury’s verdict towards Officer Wilson was not brutal because he should have gotten life in prison since Michael Brown had his hands up before shots were fired, even though Officer Wilson was attacked it is always the last resort to fire at a human being, and the bias of the jury effected the results of the verdict. At 11:54 a.m., Michael Brown and Dorian Johnson stole a few cigarillos from the Ferguson Market and Liquor store according to a surveillance video. Walking on a street known as West Florissant Avenue and the also Canfield Drive at 12:01 p.m.
Upon reading Gore Vidals "Case for Legalizing Marijuana" one may wonder why drugs are not legal in the United States of America. Afterall, several valid reasonings were made throughout the article. There is a demand for drugs and many people are supplying them, while also making a small fortune. If drugs were made legal and sold for high prices, their market would decrease because many people would not be able to afford them. Most people involved in the drug world do not know the consequences of that which they consume.
On the other hand, people who prefer a “big chance of a small punishment” work dangerous jobs. I agree with this reasoning because construction and mining does generate good in exchange for small punishments. However, in Dexter’s case he does not receive any monetary gain for murdering his victims. His crimes are an example of vigilante justice as his victims have gotten away with committing despicable acts in the community.
Court System Controversy Although there is a standard for courtrooms and how they should function it is, nevertheless, unrealistic and unable to be upheld due to bias, prejudice- either conscious or subconscious, and stereotyping. Initially, bias is using personal experiences to hold strong emotions toward a variety of groups of people. Bias can affect the court system in countless ways.
Furthermore, the drug dealer can accept social values but use criminal means of accomplishing
Bradstreet explains that opinions aren’t everything, that what truly matters is their character, their personality, not their opinions. Not only do people of today's society struggle to acknowledge and accept differing ideas, but they also have trouble with letting go of materialistic things. In today's culture, materialistic items mean everything, from your social status to how happy you are. Bradstreet explains through Here Follow Some Verses Upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666, that materialistic are not everything, there is more to life than what you own or don’t own. “Yet by His gift is made thine own; there’s wealth enough, I need no more,
Everyone is presented with a choice, so if they neglect to ponder on the possible consequences involved with his or her action society mustn’t be punished. As long as it doesn’t affect me let them destroy their own life, without me weeping the consequences. This may come off abrasive and heartless, but I have never had empathy nor sympathy for drug users. Especially when they choose that path, no was always and still being an option. What’s more unfortunate is how they truly believe they’re invincible to the adverse effects of abusing controlled substances, but everyone else isn’t.
When we look at people who do bad actions like steal a persons wallet or do drugs then we say that “they could have done otherwise,” thus this means they will be punished. But when a person does deserve praise then we don't say that “they could have done otherwise.” If a person does a generous act like return a wallet that they found without hesitation or question because they are acting from the right moral reason from recognition, then this does not disinclined them from being praised; they will be praised. The character of this agent might be determined, thus meaning that her generous character isn't under her control. Generosity
However, there is a sense that I am not better off as a person because I allow myself to preform unjust acts. It seems reasonable to assume
Unfortunately, not everybody understand this, a lot of people misinterpret it as giving a lot of money to people who will do nothing in return. So they rather save it for themselves. But that is just an excuse,
I walked dizzily down the busy streets of Boston, my pale orange dress swishing around my ankles and my dark brown bun bouncing on top of my head. After traveling over 200 years into the past, I was still trying to recover from the long trip as I jogged away from the abandoned building where I had left the remaining tea. I focused on my mission. I had to steal the butterfly ring to become rich in the future. In 2030, it is worth over 583 quadrillion dollars.
Two other theories are discussed in chapter 12 regarding drugs and crime: drug enslavement theory and general deviance syndrome theory. The book states that according to drug enslavement theory, “Drug users are forced into a life of crime because they cannot afford to pay for their drug habits unless they use crime to get money for their next fix” (Thio, 2013, pg. 311). The book states that according to general deviance syndrome theory, “The high correlation between drug use and crime does not mean that drug use causes crime because most drug users with a criminal record have committed crime before using drugs” (Thio, 2013, pg. 311). Both theories suggest that using drugs and committing crimes are related. Therefore, if marijuana use is legalized, the assumption can be made that there would essentially be some kind of decline in crime in regard to marijuana charges.
Unfortunately, this does not lead to their happiness and their actions cause them to be burdened with quilt. Shakespeare uses the Macbeths to teach us that it is not always the thing that you get but also the way you achieve it. Even if you do something bad and do not get caught for it, the punishment will catch up to you at
