The characters who are most active in the story are Tim and Grant. Grant shows his bravery by risking his life whenever someone is in need. He does not care about the danger that lies ahead as he, “Ran forward and threw himself against the dactyl.”(280) He saved a little girl who he met a few days ago as she was in a situation of life or death. The velociraptors completely intensify the plot because they are a terror to take down and a man-killer. The velociraptor is not the only dinosaur who improves the plot. Other dinosaurs help intensify the plot by making a living torture as they make humans, “hold their intestines,”(197) which validates that the plot is intense because many books do not have such gruesome and detailed scenes. These dinosaurs have the ability to blind, decapitate, slice open, and launch humans high into the sky making them hard to deal with.
