The major issue in the move Jurassic Park is that of cloning. There are many ethical issues that are a concern for many people. One of these issues is whether or not cloning should be done in the first place. Another of the issues facing the cloning process today would be the cost involved as well as the potential ecological impact the cloned animals could face or cause. The first issue to look at is the issue of the cost of actually cloning animals. There is a large amount of data that seems to suggest that the cost is sometimes greater than people are willing to pay. There is a quote from Ian Malcolm in the movie Jurassic Park that stated that the creators of Jurassic Park “were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should” (Kennedy & Molen, 1993). This is a fitting statement as many people think that there are inherent risks and rewards to the cloning of extinct creatures. One advantage of this type of cloning is that people are able to study the creatures that are created. Many creatures that are extinct today could hold answers to some of the mysteries of the current animal world such as why some animals act the way they do and why some animals have developed certain types of characteristics and mannerisms. Another area where cloning may be useful is in the medical community. There are different types of medical reaches that can be done in many different fields that will be helped with the cloning of animals such as mice that are used for testing today. There will also be more availability of stem cells that can be used from cloned animals. The stems cells that are produced in this way could be used to grow new organs for people or creatures that may need them to survive.
