Was The Wright Brothers success already determined, or did they achieve it? The Wright Brothers started the Aerial Age in the world. They were the first ones to successfully fly in an airplane, with a few new ways of thinking. Wilbur and Orville lived in Dayton, Ohio and they owned a bicycle shop named The Wright Cycle Company®. They were little kids when they started their enjoyment in aviation (flying). They had this toy that they threw and it stayed in the air then stuck to a wall. There has been very little progress in aeronautics since the 1800’s. They started on their “aircraft” at their company in 1899. They were determined to get it done. They created a box made of, a wooden frame covered in finely-woven, cotton cloth. As they were finished they looked for a place to fly it in 1901, and Kittyhawk, North Carolina. They set up a rail going down a steep hill that ramps up at the end to give it a boost to fly. This was the first powered airplane. They had a ton of improvements: an engine, more moveable hip cradle, mastered wing warping, had perfect wind tables, and added propellers. They had flown for just under a minute, 59 seconds. They had flown over 800 feet, and had multiple flights like that! Their rival Samuel P Langley was so close to finishing his ¨Aeroplane¨ and he had so much pride, that it led to his downfall and died a few years later. That was not the end of the Wright brothers success. Not only did they create the first airplane, they also were the first ones to have a circular flight, and create the first practical airplane.
